R1 - Introduction to R

About the course 

In this course, you will be introduced to the basic functions of R and learn how to work with R scripts to create continuous and reusable documents with code. You will be presented with functions for loading data from various sources and learn how to get an overview of your data. 

 The main purpose of the course is to familiarize you with R and RStudio, and the use of commands and functions, so you can start using R. 

In the course, you will receive: 

• An introduction to using R scripts 
• An overview of the most frequently used data types 
• Tools to define and work with variables 
• A brief introduction to loading data, primarily focusing on data in CSV and Excel formats 
• Tools to work with descriptive statistics as an exploratory tool, including creating frequency tables (see R2 for descriptive statistics for reports) 
• An introduction to using basic graphs as an exploratory tool. 

The course alternates between covering the above topics and exercises for each topic. 

You will be provided with data material to use for the exercises. You will receive a correction file after the course. 

R and RStudio are free programs that you need to install before the course begins. You can download the programs here.
